11/26 ＊ Trip to Portland on Thanksgiving Day! ～２度目のポートランド Day１～

I've never written my diary in English before, but this time I tried!
I wrote about my Thanksgiving Day in Portland.

アメリカに来てもうすぐ半年。
と、いう訳で、今回は思い切って日本語＆Englishで！
１泊２日で出かけたポートランド旅行、１日目のお話しです。

My husband and I went to Portland last Thursday and Friday. When we decided to go and reserve a hotel, we hadn’t known these two days are special in the U.S., like Nov 26th as Thanksgiving Day and Nov 27th as Black Friday. When we realized that, we knew almost all the stores and restaurants were closed in Thanksgiving Day! Therefore, we planned on going to the Oregon Coast instead of going shopping around the downtown of Portland on Nov 26th.

11/26（木）、27（金）とお休みで、週末も含めて４連休だった旦那ちゃん。
日本では何の変哲もないこの２日間がなぜお休みなのか？というと、
11/26（木）が“サンクスギビング”という祝日だったから。
毎年11月の第４木曜日に設定されていて、本来は自然の恵みに感謝する日だったのが、
最近では家族親戚などで集まり、楽しく食事を囲む日として位置付けられているそう

家族団らんの日、ということで、
臨時休業するレストランやショップも多いらしいのだけれど、
そ～～んなモロモロをまったく知らず、
“４連休だ！”と喜び勇んでポートランド旅行を計画し始めた私。たしか９月末頃…
泊まってみたかったホテルが11/26（木）に空いており、
しかも金or土曜泊より安かったので、迷わず木曜泊を予約していたのでした。

しかし、直前になって私たちが予約した木曜は
前述の理由でお休みするお店が多いことが発覚。。
ちっちゃなお店に立ち寄ったり街中をぶらぶらしたかった私にとって、
かなり致命的だ……と思い、予定を変更。
密かに気になっていたオレゴンコーストへ行ってみることに。

Actually, the change of plan was great because it was sunny and we could enjoy the scenic view! We went to Ecola State Park and Cannon Beach. Although both these were close to each other, the landscapes were totally different. The former was on the cape like hill so that we could see the shore far down from our feet, and it was scary because the place was like a sheer cliff.

でもこのプラン変更が、結果的には吉に！
とってもよいお天気で、寒さもあまり気にならず、
素晴らしい風景に出合えたのでした！
まず向かったのはこちら、エコラ州立公園。

The waves were wild, and the sounds were also loud! 
打ち寄せては引いていく波が荒々しく、音も“ザザーン!!”と豪快！

We discovered the tiny rock with the tiny house far from us.
After trip, we found out that one was named Tillamook Rock Lighthouse.
はるか遠くに家の乗っかった小さな岩を発見！
帰ってきて調べたら、あれはティラムックロック灯台というものだったことが判明

It was frightening but so beautiful!
断崖絶壁のようなちょっとコワ～い場所も

The latter, Cannon Beach was a very calm shoaling beach which has the third highest monolith in the world named Haystack Rock. This beach was so shiny like a mirror that I could see the perfect reflection of my husband on that surface, and the appearance of Haystack Rock was also powerful. I had never seen this kind of beach before. I was so impressed by the scenery.

海を眺めてお昼ごはんを食べ、お次はキャノンビーチへ。

こちらの海の雰囲気はエコラ州立公園と全く別物！
今までに見たことがないほどの遠浅で、穏やかで幻想的。。
あまりの美しさに、たくさん写真を撮っちゃいました。
世界で三番目に高いという巨大な一枚岩・ヘイスタックロックも見応え抜群～

旦那ちゃんを撮ってみたら、砂浜がまるで鏡のように！

After we spent time relaxing and enjoyed driving along the Oregon Coast,

こんな感じでキャノンビーチをたっぷり満喫。
その後もオレゴンコースト沿いのルートを経由し、、

we were off to the hotel named ACE HOTEL in the downtown of Portland and checked in around 5 pm.

夕方５時ごろポートランドに到着！
まずはダウンタウンのど真ん中に位置する
「ACE HOTEL」にチェックイン。いざ、お部屋へ～♪

 

I had wanted to stay at this hotel. It was artistic and wonderful.
泊まってみたかったホテル。アートなオシャレ空間でした

Then, we went to the Macy’s because the Black Friday sale was about to start! We could buy a pasta pot and a cutting board for cheaper prices.

その後は前倒しで始まるブラックフライデーを堪能？すべく、
アメリカではお馴染みのデパート「メイシーズ」へ。
ブラックフライデーはサンクスギビングの翌日で、あらゆるものがあり得ないほど
値引きされる日。日本の初売りみたいな日かな？

Holiday decoration! It supposed to open through the night.
装飾がクリスマス～。この日は夕方６時にオープンし、夜通し営業するとか！

安売り品をめぐって売り場が戦場と化す…とうわさを聞いていたのだけれど、
たくさん商品を購入して嬉しそうな人たちは何人も見かけたものの、
物騒な気配は一切なく、のんびり楽しい、夜のショッピング。
私たちも質の良さそうなパスタポットとカッティングボードを安く購入できました◎

Next, we tried to have dinner but finding an open restaurant was too difficult on that day because of Thanksgiving! However, we could find a bar which was underground and open. We were afraid of entering because we couldn’t see what kind of bar it was unless we went down the stairs. After a little time thinking, we decided to go down the stairs with courage!

そして迎えた夕食の時間。
案の定ほとんどのレストランが閉まっていた中、
ようやく見つけた１軒のバー。
しかし地下にあるため店内が分からず、どんな雰囲気か見当がつかず。。
ほかに２軒、候補はあったけれど、
勇気を出してこのバーに入ってみることに！

There really were the stairs. It was closed, though. That's because we took a photo after dinner.
食後に撮ったから閉まっちゃっているけれど、、ここに階段があったんです！

When we entered, we saw the bar had a band. We could have dinner while several bands were performing and singing. Moreover, the live performances were free! I thought the bar was really awesome and what a wonderful day was during this comfortable live performances.

中は意外に広く、お客さんも多く賑わっていて、まずはホッとひと安心。
加えて旦那ちゃんが、さらに奥の空間で生演奏が行われているのを発見！
スタッフさんに尋ねたら「お好きな席へどうぞ～」
と言ってくれたので、遠慮なく奥へ。
バンドの生演奏を聴きながら、お酒と食事を堪能。

食後もしばらく、生演奏を楽しんだ私たち。
心地よい演奏に包まれながら、
“いい１日だったなぁ～”と感慨にふけったのでした。
