We had a fun activity on the third day in Alaska.
It was ice fishing!

Today’s breakfast; freshly made biscuits. We ate them with sausage gravy or berry jam.

We put on a lot of clothes, and were off to the Chena lake for ice fishing!
On the way, Mrs. Pat stopped over a scenic place.

f:id:tmikky:20160205142525j:plain Yeah!

Mr. Ed had already arrived at the lake and made holes for fishing when we got there, so we were ready to fish!

f:id:tmikky:20160205143121j:plain

At the beginning, we learned how to catch a fish. We both, my husband and I, felt the bite of fish as soon as we dropped our fishing line!

f:id:tmikky:20160205143848j:plain

We both caught a fish each other right away!
There were small King Salmon or Rainbow Trout Salmon, not pond smelt, in the Chena lake.

f:id:tmikky:20160205143259j:plain
His fish flopped away when we tried to take a photo.

We caught some fish constantly and enjoyed fishing.
One time, Mr. Ed let my husband make a hole.

Mrs. Pat made a fire by using wood, and also made some hot apple cider for us while we were enjoying fishing.
I began to like the apple cider when I drank it at that time.

f:id:tmikky:20160205144728j:plain Apple cider♪

They roasted hot dogs as a lunch by using the outdoor fire. In spite of simple hot dogs like just putting a sausage on a roll bread, it was warm and delicious, and the beautiful snowscapes as far as I could see made me happy!
Finally, I ate three hotdogs easily.

By the way, I competed with my husband for the number of fish caught. When my husband moved to another hole which was far from we stayed,

f:id:tmikky:20160205151522j:plain

Mrs. Pat and Mr. Ed whispered me it was my chance to take all my husband’s fish, and they transferred all his fish to my bucket which I turned upside down to use as a chair!

When my husband returned to his original position, they also asked him on purposely like “Now, how many fish did you catch?” in order to let him pay attention to his number of fish at that time. They were looking forward to seeing his reaction when he discovered what happened, and looked really excited. I thought they were cute.

I also took on the challenge to make a hole.
It was hard because making a hole needed power.

f:id:tmikky:20160205152425j:plain

At the end of the fishing, I caught a big Rainbow Trout Salmon!
Mr. Ed told me he had never seen such a big one caught in the lake before.

The sky was like a sunrise or sunset all day long.

f:id:tmikky:20160205153842j:plain

In the end, I caught 7 fish and Mr. Ed gave me one fish, so my total was 8 fish. My husband caught 8 fish. We went back home with 16 fish and pleasure!

Mr. Ed stopped by the Santa Claus House for us on the way home. We bought stickers of Alaska and took a photo with Santa Claus. We also went to a Safe Way, a supermarket, and noticed the alcohol section and the cashier were totally independent of the grocery floor. Mr. Ed told us it was normal in Alaska. I realized Alaska is strict about alcohol.

The Santa Claus House.

We ate Halibut dishes and coleslaw salads which Mrs. Pad prepared, and of course, also ate fresh small King Salmon barbecued for dinner. We enjoyed talking about fishing, the licenses for fishing and hunting in Alaska, and so on.

At night, we stood by seeing auroras. The auroras we could watch that night were as same as we had watched before. They were not colorful, again… Anyway, we ate ramen outdoor for a midnight snack and kept our bodies warm. It was yummy!
